Police Scanners

Another one of my hobbies has always been scanning. Not image scanning like on a computer, but listening to police broadcasts. Yes I know, it is kind of like electronic ambulance chasing, but it is fun. I have four police scanners in my house, because I like to listen so much. Summer is my favorite, because it seems you can always hear the sirens going then. All of my scanners come from Radio Shack, as I feel they make one of the better products out there, and of course I have no other places to buy them in the sticks here. There are many more things than just the police to listen to on a scanner. I can get instant weather reports, I can hear aircraft that are flying overhead. You can pick up race teams if you are near the tracks. I can also pick up the fast food drive thrus, the stockboys at WalMart and a few other odds & ends. Here are the four scanners I own.

REALISTIC PRO-2006
This scanner was probably one of the top models of its time. I don't know how it ranks now, but back in the early 90's, you couldn't beat this scanner. I paid about $400 for this one. That is $1 a channel, but I'd say it's been worth it. This is still one of my favorite scanners and it was the first one I ever purchased on my own. This is still one of the most sought after scanners, considering its frequency range.

RADIO SHACK PRO-2026
This is a mobile scanner. A long time ago I used to have a Ford Tempo. I had taken the ashtray out and mounted this scanner in there. Unfortunately I can't find any room in my Mustang for this to fit without doing some serious damage. I recently mounted this on my headboard of my bed so I can turn it on at a moments notice when I hear a siren and find out what is going on when I'm supposed to be sleeping.

RADIO SHACK PRO-26
This is a great scanner for traveling. I used to take this one in the car with me before I had the 2026. I have taken this one many places I go. I've had it all the way to Wyoming even. It is something fun to do when you are in a hotel room all alone and you realize how much the television sucks. This one has about the same frequency range as the PRO-2006, with the exception of cellular blocking.

RADIO SHACK PRO-2029
This is pretty much the run of the mill scanner. I didn't buy this one personally. This used to be my Grandma's scanner before she went into the nursing home. Since I love scanners, I decided it would make a nice everyday scanner. It works good for listening to the cops while I scan other frequencies on the others.
